Midgets Complete Super Bowl Sweep
|
TDs from Jason Dice, Austin Courtney, Tyler Wollenburg and and great overall effort from the Chiefs midgets completed the first 3-0 Super Bowl weekend for the Chiefs with a 50-0 victory Saturday night at Buell stadium. Kicks from Dice and Matt Doeschot rounded out the scoring. A great defensive effort limited the Rams all day long, wreaking havoc in their backfield. Roger Diehm and Harrison Phillips added two of four interceptions for the Chiefs defense.

A long TD run by Luke Sims and a TD saving tackle by Alex Van Dyke highlighted a spirited defensive battle at Buell stadium for the 2nd Chiefs-Rams matchp of the Super Bowl weekend. The MiniPeeWee defense stepped up numerous times and were able to hang on late for a 6-0 win. A great 2-0 start for the Chiefs.

Chiefs PeeWees Open Super Bowl Weekend By Dominating Rams
|
The Chiefs PeeWees picked up their first win of the season and started the Super Bowl festivities off with a win over the Rams Sunday morning at Buell Stadium in Millard. Ryan Moritz scored 3 times, and Jacob Richardson and Lucas Schultz added another score as the Chiefs took control early and never looked back in a dominate effort, beating the Rams 31-6. The Chiefs held quarter leads on 6-0, 19-0 and 25-0 to keep the game out of reach while continually applying pressure for all four stanzas. The defense again was huge, led by Kyle Reis, and the Chiefs look forward to this great group of athletes carrying this effort into 2010.

Midgets Battle Hard For 4 Quarters, Fall Short
|
Trying to avenge a 41-0 drubbing just a few weeks earlier, the revitalized Chiefs midgets came out to play Sunday in a rescheduled game against the Raiders. First blood though was given to the Raiders as they jammed a fourth goal dive over the line to go up 6-0. Adding the extra point and the visitors were up early in the 2nd 8-0. Following a dropped interception, the Raiders took advantage of a missed coverage and were able to stretch the lead to 14-0 midway before half. The Chiefs marched a long drive down the field and Austin Courtney punched it in, but a bad snap on the extra point left the score at 14-6 at halftime. The score remained that way until mid way through the 4th, when the Raiders capitalized on a failed fourth down attempts and punched in another to go ahead 20-6. Jason Dice returned the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown, setting up a dramatic finish with the score at 20-12. A successful onside kick gave the Chiefs back the ball with just under 2 minutes left at midfield. The midgets were unable to convert late, and a fourth down pass fell harmlessly to the turf, and the Raiders ran the clock out to hold onto the 20-12 victory. A great effort to bounce back after the first meeting between the two teams!

PeeWees, Minis Play Hard, Split With Broncos
|
The Chiefs PeeWees and Minis both came to play Saturday with a twin bill against the Broncos. A spirited effort to start with the PeeWees battling to a 6-6 halftime time, but ultimately fell 20-6 to the now 4-1 Broncos. By far the best effort of the year from the PeeWees, it is coming boys. The Minis concluded with a barn burner, after scoring and converting the xp to go up 7-0, the Broncos answered back but were held on their extra point making the score 7-6. The rest of the game was a defensive struggle, and the final was 7-6 Chiefs.

Chiefs Midgets Play Well, Prepare For Dolphins
|
The Chiefs Midgets played from the opening whistle and never let up, showing focus and control over the Rams in a 42-0 victory Sunday at Andersen Middle School. Jason Dice threw 4 touchdown passes, 2 to Kyle McMindes and one each to Alex Carstens and Austin Courtney, and Courtney and Dice added scores on the ground for the offensive attack of the Chiefs. Jason Dice, Harry Phillips and Matt Doeschot all kicked extra points for the Chiefs who now begin preparations for the rematch of the week 1 game versus the Dolphins.

Midgets Have Defensive Battle, Triumph
|
It took only two game in 2009 for the Chiefs to get into the win column, as they knocked off a previously unbeaten Cowboy team 8-6 at Andersen field Sunday. A defensive battle, a scoreless game through three quarters, was broken at the five minute mark of the 4th as Alex Carsten converted a fourth and goal, and Jason Dice and the all important extra point kick to put the Chiefs up 8-0. The Cowboys answered on their next offensive play, and scrambled up the middle for the score. A missed extra point though was costly as it left the score at 8-6. The drama did not end there, as the Cowboys held the Chiefs and forced a punt, which the Cowboys blocked and recovered deep in Chiefs territory. Costly Cowboy penalties and a final desperation pass resulted in a Kyle McMindes interception to preserve the win. Next up, Redskins Wednesday.

PeeWees Progress Slow, But There
|
It took four quarter Sunday for the Cowboys Peewees to finally put away the Chiefs at Andersen. A 7-6 game into the fourth quarter was a battle in the trenches, but in the end the experienced Cowboys got two late scores and posted a 20-6 win. Next up for the Peewees, a make up game versus the Redskins.

Minis Fight Hard, Get Shutout By Cowboys
|
The Chiefs Minipeewees struggled offensively, but fought hard all day, and the home Cowboys pulled away late in a 20-0 shutout win Sunday at Andersen. Long play saving tackles and mere inches in some cases separated the Chiefs and Cowboys, and on any other day it might have gone the other way. Next up for the Minis a makeup game against the Redskins.

Minis Ride Long Plays To Opening Win
|
The Chiefs minipeewees used the long run to hang with and eventually pass the Packers in the opener Saturday at Andersen. Luke Sims scored 3 touchdowns for the minis, who overcame deficits of 7-0 and 13-12 to win 19-13. The best run of the day might have been one that did not count as Sims lost both shoes in the backfield and still rambled off left for a 75 yard score. A holding penalty brought that play back, but on the ensuing play, Sims ran off the right side, kept his shoes, and rambled 85 yards for the game winner. Great start minis!

PeeWees Trying To Find Identity In Opening Loss
|
The Chiefs peewees used the first nonconference game of the year to fell out who and what, and to find what adjustments needed to be made, as they fell the the Packers 19-6 on Saturday at AMS. Jacob Richardson punched in the only score for the peewees, making it 12-6, but the Packers pounded away and added ascore late for the final margin.

Midgets Show Heart In Opener
|
The Chief midgets overcame some first half jitters, and found results and respect in the team opener Saturday at AMS. After giving up a 4th and 15 hail mary pass play into double coverage for the opening score, and allowing another score off a blown coverage, the midgets could have folded up after being down 20-0 at the half. The 2nd half though was dominated by the Chiefs, and despite giving up a late touchdown on a halfback pass, the Chiefs outscored the Dolphins 8-6 in the second half of the 26-8 loss. Grats to all the Chief midgets, heart played a big part in the game today, and we know we can play with the best teams in the league.

Midgets Dominate Scrimmage
|
The Chiefs midgets visited the Rams on their turf Wednesday night, and in a rematch of the 2008 Super Bowl, the Chiefs first teamers scored 6 times and gave up only 1 on a blown coverage when the first teams were matched up. The Rams were unable to move on the ground even against the Chiefs backup defense, and used a couple of long pass plays against the backups to save respect late in the scrimmage. Every Chief from top to bottom showed great form, discipline and skill and really made an impressive showing. First year midgets Tyler Wollenburg and Paul Semin shored up a great defensive effort for all the midgets. Jason Dice kicked an impressive extra point, which cleared the crossbar by 20 yards and drew oohs and aahs from Chiefs and Rams alike. Next up...Redskins Saturday.

2008 Season
|
I wanted to say now the games have all been played, what I saw this year. I saw three teams who all encountered different issues, different problems, and three teams that were able to push through. The Minis ran into a weight issue when a lot of the 4th graders were out of ball carrier range, and the coaches were left with a lot of 1st year players and a couple of 4th graders who could carry the ball, and they were able to grow and turn the minis into a competitive team, and in the process gave a lot of new players a lot of opportunities to grow and learn. In the end from top to bottom the team grew in leaps and bounds. The peewees were young, with more new players than the other two teams, and through the course of the season they learned how to be football players. I look for great things from the entire peewee team next year. The midgets, a relatively experienced crew, learned how to compete in a league dominated by 8th grade heavy teams. What they learned this year will only make them stronger as they become the top of the hill in 2009. To all the outgoing 8th graders, I think it is awesome that your last game as a Chief was a victory. Good luck in high school!

Chiefs Minis, PeeWees End Season With Tough Losses
|
The Chiefs Minis And PeeWees concluded the 2008 season Sunday at UNO, both teams playing the 49ers. The Minis scored first on a Dylan Van Hill run, but gave it right back allowing the 49ers to return the ensuing kickoff and making the halftime score 6-6. A big field position change in the 4th quarter, as the 49ers broke an 80 yard run to move from their own 10 to the Chiefs 10. They scored a few plays later and left little time to answer, holding on to a 12-6 win. The PeeWees also played to a 6-6 halftime tie, but the 49ers offense wore our boys out in the second half and pulled away to a 26-6 final tally. Both teams played hard and never gave up, two superior efforts Chiefs!

Midgets Beat Rams To Start Super Bowl Weekend
|
The Chief Midgets came out on a cold, windy Friday night under the lights with two things on the agenda, picking up their first win and revenging a first week loss to the Rams. The Chiefs got on the board first after a short drive following a Rams 3rd down quick kick, Kyle McMindes connected with Trevor Bruegman and gave the Chiefs a 6-0 lead. The Rams tied it up on a long drive, and scored on a 4th and goal to tie it a 6 at halftime. The Chiefs scored on their first two second half possessions behind the hard running of Brenden Trout, Ian Morrison, Trever Bruegman, Jason Dice and Kyle McMindes. The defense never left any doubt and force two second half interceptions and two second half fumbles. The line play of Harry Phillips, Deshon Miller, Soren Brunken, Caleb Schwartzkopf, Keegan Young, Mitch Armstrong, Matt Doeschot, and Shaun Knipfer set the tone the whole second half. Backups George Babcock, Dylan Kuehn, Roger Diehm, cheerleader Nolan Emerson and a last kneel (fumble he recovered) by Austin Courtney left no doubt, final score Chief Midgets 19, Rams 6.

Midgets Play Tough, Gain Momentum
|
The Chiefs Midgets came to play Sunday, trying to avenge a week 2 37-0 loss to the Redskins. The Chiefs came ready to play on both sides of the ball, and despite letting some big plays slip through their hands, they were able to hold the Redskins scoreless in the second half, and forced 6 turnovers despite falling 16-7. By far the best effort of the year from the midgets, and look out Rams in the Super Bowl.

The Chief MiniPeeWees played a tough game in a stiff breeze Sunday, and behind 2 TD runs from Dylan VanHill and an extra point run by Matt Ebner, the Minis walked off with a 13-0 win. A great effort and a great win to take into SUpoer Bowl weekend.

Midgets Break Through
|
It what was arguably the best game of the year, especially defensively, as the Chiefs Midgets finally broke the goose egg on the year when Jason Dice ripped the ball from the Dolphins ball carrier and rambled 55 yards for the score. The second half of the game was dead even, as the Dolphins and Chiefs were only able to manage 6 points each. Taking the momentum into the next game against the Cowboys is key, as the Chiefs enter a very favorable stretch of games.

Injury Update
|
I usually reserve this news page for information regarding practice, pictures, etc, but I believe this warranted notice. I was informed tonight that Austin, the midget who broke his arm at practice tonight, was at home, resting, he broke both bones in his forearm, but they were clean, and they were reset, and he will be in a cast for about 6 weeks or so. I want to thank all the coaches on the staff and all the parents for helping keep Austin and the other players calm during this incident, and for the quick response and calm to get the help there quickly and controlled. We will be wishing Austin a speedy recovery, and hope to see him pound the rock again soon.

Close Games The Weekend Theme
|
Close games were the theme Sunday at Whitehawk as the MiniPeeWees and PeeWees battled the 49ers, with the combined scores separated by only a touchdown. A Dylan Van Hill runs, along with a Van Hill to Schnieder touchdown pass kept the Minis even as they battled to a 12-12 tie. The PeeWees fought hard but a Paul Semin touchdown was all they could muster, as they fell in overtime 12-6. A great effort for both as they head into conference play next weekend.

Minis Find Their Legs, Battle Hard
|
A young Chiefs MiniPeeWee team battle for four tough quarters Sunday against the Rams. The Rams started strong, and the Minis found themselves down 18-0 at halftime. As every minute passed the Minis stepped up and improved and had a great second half, battling the Rams for the final two quarters to a virtual standstill. Despite the improvements, the hole was too much to overcome, and despite some good developments on offense in the second half, the Minis were unable to punch one in and the final score stood at 18-0. Next up for the Minis, the Bucs Sunday.

PeeWees Start First, Need Extra Time To Beat Rams
|
The Chief PeeWees scored on a long touchdown pass from Paul Semin to Parker Newman on their first possession, and added a long run from Zach Sullivan to pull out to a quick 13-0 lead, but the Rams were able to battle back and force overtime with the score 13-13. On the first possession of overtime the PeeWee defense stepped up and stuff a 4th and inches on the goal line, and then the PeeWee offense took only two plays as Sullivan ran outside and scored to give the PeeWees the 19-13 victory Sunday at Whitehawk. Next up for the PeeWees, a Sunday meeting with the Bucs.

Big Plays, Mistakes Doom Midgets
|
The midget Chiefs dominated both sides of the ball, winning both the time of possession and yardage battles, but made too many mistakes and gave up a long run in the first half, and a touchdown on the final play of the game to fall to the Rams Sunday 12-0. Next up for the Chiefs, a tough Bucs team.

Rain Practice Policy
|
The Chiefs believe in keeping the safety of our players as a top priority, so in the event of severe weather, we will shorten practices. It is unlikely practices will be canceled for severe weather until the very last second, because weather changes so quickly. If it is not severe, and simply raining, like today so far, practice will go on as scheduled. This is after all football, not baseball :)

PeeWees Spread It Around, Beat Rams
|
The KWAA Chiefs PeeWees got touchdowns from 4 different backs Saturday at UNO and used a balanced attack to stifle the Rams PeeWees 28-7. Touchdown runs from Trevor Bruegman, Alex Knudson, Brenden Trout and the first touchdown of the year for Parker Newman rounded out the scoring. A pair of extra point kicks by Matt Doeschot gave the final tally of 28 for the PeeWees who finish the year with a record of 5-3. A great season and a good way to get ready for 2008.

MiniPeeWees Lose Back And Forth Game
|
The KWAA Chief MiniPeeWees exchanged blows with the Cowboys at UNO Saturday in a high scoring affair until a few second half turnovers let the Cowboys pull away to a 33-18 win. Robert DiDonato scored twice and Noah Nespoli punched in his first TD of the year for the Minis. A great effort from the youngster and a good way to show how far they have come. Great job MiniPeeWees

PeeWees Put On Best Performance Of Year In Rout
|
The Chiefs PeeWees were an unstoppable offensive force against the Titans Saturday at Millard North Middle School. Scoring on every offensive possession in the first half and went in after 2 quarters leading 44-6. The scoring was led by Alex Knudson, who ran for 3 scores and made an electrifying 95 yard punt return accounting for his fourth touchdown. A pair of touchdown runs by Brenden Trout, a touchdown pass from Kyle McMindes to Trevor Bruegman, a long run from Anthony DiDonato, and a tough run by Austin Courtney completed the nine touchdown day for the Chiefs. Taking into account the 4-for-9 extra point kicks by Matt Doeschot put the final score for the day at 62-6. Next up for the Chiefs, the powerful Dolphins on Sunday.

Minis Score Early, Late In Victory
|
Two early scores set the tone for the Chiefs Minis Saturday at Millard North Middle School. After pulling out to a 14-0 lead early, the Titans closed the gap to 14-12 and missed the chance for a tie when the extra point kick careened off the crossbar. With time running down and the Titans stiffening on defense, Robert DiDonato kept the ball on a late 4th and 2 and was able to bounce it outside turning it into a 30 yard scamper which put the final score at 20-12. Two in a row for the Minis as they play the Dolphins in a make up game Sunday.

Midgets Battle, LoseClose

The Chiefs midgets played hard for all 4 quarters, but in the end it was a blocked punt returned for a touchdown that gave the Bucs an 8-6 victory Saturday at Anderson Middle School. After being pinned early and being stop for a safety, the Chiefs scored offensively on a Dylan Grell to Ian Morrison pass and led at halftime 6-2. Next up for the Chiefs, the Raiders on Oct 28th.

Midgets Play Tough, Come Up Short
|
The Chief Midgets played their best game of the year on a wet Millard North field Saturday morning, and with a late TD the Rams were able to walk away with a 19-6 win. With the score 6-0 Ian Morrison knocked the ball lose from the Rams ball carrier, and it was scooped up and run for a touchdown by Keith Owens. A long drive put the score at 13-6 Rams at the half, and it stayed that way until late in the 4th when the Rams tacked on the final score against an exhausted defense. The best effort of the year for the Chiefs, regardless of the score and they can build on this effort as they face the Bucs.

MiniPeeWees Score Early, Hold On For First Win
|
The Chiefs MiniPeeWees scored on the opening possession of the game on tough running by Robert DiDonato, and the extra point run by Noah Nespoli proved to be the difference as the Minis used a tough defense on a goal line stand and were able to upend the Broncos Minis 7-6 Saturday afternoon for their first win. Next up the Minis look to keep rolling against the Dolphins.

Chiefs Struggle, Get Swept
|
All three Chiefs teams were beaten over the weekend, the first time this season the Chiefs post an 0-3 weekend record. The PeeWees struggled and self destructed losing 18-6 to the Steelers. The most exciting game of the weekend saw a short handed, yet determined MiniPeeWee team battle for four quarters dropping a close 6-0 decision to the Steelers. The Midgets lost a discerning effort Sunday morning 24-0 to the Redskins. The Chiefs look to regroup as the Minis and PeeWees battle the Raiders and the Midgets matchup against the Cowboys.

PeeWees Pound Redskins
|
2 Weeks, 2 Games, 2 strong offensive performances and 2 shutouts. The PeeWee Chiefs used a strong rushing attack and a stingy defense in handing the Redskins a 32-0 drubbing Saturday afternoon at Millard Central. Two scores by Alex Knudson, a touchdown from Brenden Trout, and a scamper from Brandon Hochwender set the pace for the 2-0 PeeWee Chiefs. Kicker Matt Doeschot was again perfect, connecting on 4 for 4 extra points to improve his season total to 7 for 7. Next up for the PeeWees, the Steelers Saturday to open conference play.

Minis Again Strike First, Give Way Late
|
The Chief Minis struck first for the second straight week when Robert DiDonato scamperede 80 yards for a score and put the Minis up 6-0. The Minis were unable to put together another drive and the Redskins scored 2 second half touchdowns to pull away to a 21-6 victory at Central Middle School Saturday afternoon. Next up Steelers Saturday.

Midgets Start Fast, Finish Flat
|
The Chief Midgets started fast against the 49ers on a chilly Saturday morning at Andersen Middle School. Dylan Grell returned an interception on the second play from scrimmage to put the Midgets up 6-0. After that a less than stellar effort and a determined 49er team pounded the middle on both sides of the ball and pulled away to a 22-6 victory. Next up for the Midgets, Redskins Sept 23rd.

PeeWee Chiefs Dominate Cowboys
|
The Chief PeeWees used a balanced offensive attack and a stingy defense in defeating the Cowboys 24-0 at Millard North Middle School Sunday. Touchdown runs by Alex Knudson and Brandon Hochwender, followed by a 55 yard touchdown pass to Trevor Bruegman from Kyle McMindes help to seal the win for the Chiefs. The Chiefs also relied on the strong leg of Matt Doeschot as he set a Chief record for PATs, going 3 for 3 kicking extra points for the PeeWees. With the victory the Chiefs move to 1-0 on the season and play host to the Redskins Saturday at 1:30 PM at Millard Central Middle School.

MiniPeeWees Fight Hard, Lose Nailbiter
|
The Chief MiniPeeWees struck first, but were unable to hold off a late charge as they were downed by the Cowboys 13-6. After going up 6-0, the Cowboys used a punt return touchdown to send it to halftime tied at 6. After a battle for field position in the second half saw the Cowboys end up with the ball deep in Chief territory, they were able to push it across late and convert a PAT pass to go up 13-6 with just a few minutes remaining. A few last ditch plays for the Chiefs fell short, and saw them drop their opener by the final of 13-6. Next up for the Minis, the Redskins come calling at 3:30 PM at Millard Central Middle School on Saturday.

Midgets Lose Defensive Battle
|
An early morning game at Andersen Middle School saw the Chief midgets and the Jets battle for four quarter, with a late touchdown for the Jets giving them a 6-0 victory. Both teams played hard through a scoreless first half, and the Jets were able to use Chief errors to capitalize on a short field late in the game to escape with the win. Next up for the midgets, an 8:30 AM meeting Saturday versus the 49ers at Andersen Middle School.

PeeWees Look Good In Scrimmage
|
The Chief PeeWees scored through the air and on the ground as they played guest for the Gretna Gold Thursday night at Gretna Middle School. Long runs by Brandon Hochwender, Parker Newman and Kyle McMindes, mixed with timely long pass plays for scores, twice to Trevor Bruegman and once to Keegan Young, accounted for a solid offensive effort against one of the best Gretna has to offer. Powerful running by whack back Brenden Trout, and solid line play on both sides of the ball made for an entertaining scrimmage. As always, there are some kinks to work out as the Chiefs prepare for the season opener against the Cowboys.

Mission Accomplished!
|
From Midget Coach Doug Case:
Alex Genaidy 2001, 2002 has become a member of the Texas A&M football team for 2007. He will be playing wide receiver for the Aggies. Following Alex's time with the Chiefs where he did get an outstanding lineman award as a tight end, his family moved to Texas. Alex attended High School in Dallas, TX. After moving through a couple of positions, Alex settled down at wide receiver and amassed 850 yards of receiving his Senior year. Alex called me this past weekend to give me the great news. He remembers fondly his time with the Chiefs and the coaches especially the encouragement his coaches gave him and the chance to have 'fun' prior to his high school football career. Thanks to Whitey and my other assistants those years which included Karim Genaidy (Alex's Dad). It's great that he has such fond memories and greater that he was able to achieve his goals. He is to be congratulated and I think that I can speak for the team when I say we're all very proud of Alex.
Great Kid, Mission accomplished!

An Editorial To Live By
|
I search the internet daily for technical, tactical, useful information to help my life as a youth sports coach. Something you see in numerous locations is the national youth coach code of ethics, but more importantly it seems these days, with parents pulling guns and fights erupting in the stands, is the parents code of ethics. It becomes increasingly difficult to coach and to be a traditional parent cheerleader when a few bad apples decide that winning is more important than anything else. I would be lying if I said the Chiefs were angels throughout the course of the season, but I have noticed an increasing hostility, between parents, coaches, players, an atmosphere tainted by putting victory above all else. I offer you the parents code of ethics, and the link to the coaches and players code of ethics, in hopes that we may all return to the purpose of having youth sports be fun, educational, and a lifelong positive experience for all our young men and women.
Parents Code of Ethics
I hereby pledge to provide positive support, care, and encouragement for my child participating in youth sports by following this Parents Code of Ethics Pledge.
I will encourage good sportsmanship by demonstrating postive support for all players, coaches, and officials at every game, practice, or other youth sports event.
I will place the emotional and physical well-being of my child ahead of a personal desire to win.
I will insist that my child play in a safe and healthy envirnoment.
I will support coaches and officials working with my child, in order to encourage a positive and enjoyable experience for all.
I will demand a sports environment for my child that is free of drugs, tobacco, and alcohol, and will refrain from their use at all youth sports events.
I will remember that the game is for youth-not for adults.
I will do my very best to make youth sports fun for my child.
I will ask my child to treat other players, coaches, fans, and officials, with respect regardless of race, sex, creed, or ability.
I promise to help my child enjoy the youth sports experience by doing whatever I can, such as being a respectable fan, assisting with coaching, or providing transportation.

Chiefs Salute 2006 Champions
|
The Chiefs organization would like to extend its congratulations to the 2006 champions.
MiniPeeWees Redskins over Dolphins 18-0
PeeWees Dolphins over Cowboys 22-6
The Chiefs would especially like to congratulate the midget Cowboys, 18-8 victors over the Redskins. A special congratulations to Jake Loftus, the inspirational leader, Dustin Peters, the 'Diesel', head coach Dennie Loftus, and the entire group of Cowboys, for taking a winless team in 2005 and turning them into an undefeated league champion. A great effort from all, and a great group of kids, congrats Cowboy midgets.

Chiefs Close Out 2006 Season
|
In summarizing the 2006 season, I quote a familiar saying from the walls of Memorial Stadium in Lincoln
Not the victory but the action; Not the goal but the game; In the deed the glory.
And from Vince Lombardi, hall of fame NFL coach:
The real glory is being knocked to your knees and then coming back. That is real glory.
What these quotes mean to us as coaches and teachers is to never dwell on the records, the wins and losses, but to dedicate ourselves to making better football players, to making better young men, to instilling a dedication to give 110% and to get up more than you get knocked down. The 2006 Chiefs, the Minis, PeeWees and Midgets were knocked to their knees a number of times this season, but when the smoke clears, they will rise again. Hold your heads up high and bring the desire to improve into 2007.

PeeWees Dominate Scrimmage
|
The PeeWee Chiefs travelled Tuesday to Andersen Baseball fields to take on the Red Storm of the MAA. In the end, a great experience for all the Chiefs in a 63-0 rout. In a game in which the backups took 2/3 of the snaps on both sides of the ball, the Chiefs were never really threatened as they showed their true potential for the first time in 2006. Offensively, the Chiefs were able to run all 3 quarterbacks, and had success early on TD runs by Ian Morrison and Alex Knudson. A TD reception by Brandon Hochwender from Kyle McMindes also helped lift the Chiefs in the early stages. Tough running by Brenden Trout (TD), Caleb Schwartzkopf, and Roger Linn helped to spread the carries around. The offensive line, which was dominant all night, was led by Nick Holthe, Gabe Rigatuso, Austin Courtney, Corey Andersen, and Ben Barrett, who picked up a fumble and rambled for a 15 yard pickup. Trevor Bruegman also made a key reception, helping the Chiefs to a successful passing night. The surprise of the night offensively was the running of Anthony DiDonato, who had a long TD run and ran with confidence all night long. A great effort by Anthony! Defensively the Chiefs ran a rotating substitution scheme all night which proved to be dominant. Shaun Knipfer spent the majority of the night in the Red Storm backfield, causing havoc and not allowing the Storm to get on track. Josh Formanek, Alec Carstens, Grant Miller and Dylan Kuehn also provided a strong defensive effort plugging the middle. Soren Brunken was unstoppable on both sides of the ball, and was unmatched in his athleticism as he showed his true form, and what the coaches have waited all year for, to dominate.
A special thanks to Coach Nelson and the MAA for allowing us to use the fields and to host this scrimmage. The Red Storm are a fiesty group of players who have great things in thier future, good luck to them in the remainder of 2006 and beyond!

State Of The Chiefs
|
As we pass the halfway point in the regular season, I try to give an idea of what I see and where I feel we are in our progression as young athletes and football players. Anyone who knows me knows I am not about the wins and losses, if it was up to me I would not even keep score, for I feel the true measure of a youth program and us personally as coaches are the player we teach. With my first year with the PeeWees this year, I have seen good and bad, but I see progress, and I feel we are on the right path for where we need to be 2,3, and 4 years down the road and beyond. Do not be discouraged by the wins and losses, know that you are giving your all, having fun, and learning the game of football. Every year you will get better and your efforts will be rewarded in the long run. Maybe not this year, maybe not next year, but if you continue to work hard and have fun, you will be rewarded.
With the MiniPeeWees we faced some tough trials, with the new rule changes taking coaches off the field, and with the first new head coach in 7 years, we knew there would be times of transistion. A team with only 2 returning players has showed heart and desire, along with a great attitude, and have have success on and off the game field. I could not be prouder of the Minis and their desire to have fun and continue to learn. Great things are ahead for this group of athletes, and I hope we can continue to enjoy them as a part of our Chiefs organizaton for many years to come.
The Midgets came into 2006 with a lot of question marks, a lot of new faces, a lot of youth, and surely enough, a lot of heart as well. In a league that minus a few teams is entirely up for grabs, the Midgets have proved some of the critics wrong as they continue to build a foundation for greatness for this year, next year, and many high school years to come.
With 4 games down, 5 games to go, let us continue to build good foundations for great athletes, I want to thank the parents for getting the players to practice, and games, and to all the other volunteers that make this organization run as smoothly as possible. Again, I do not do it for the wins and losses, we are here to build athletes, and to instill work ethic and a certain character that 10 years from now makes these players proud to say they were a KWAA Chief.
Thanks To Everyone!

Midgets, Minis Struggle, PeeWees Lose Another Close One
|
A cool Saturday morning at Andersen and a sweep of the Chiefs by the Steelers and Redskins. The PeeWees began the day against a big Steeler team, and after going ahead 7-0 early in the third, they were unable to hold on as the Steelers took two long drives, sandwiching a onside kick, to come out with a 13-7 win. The Minis followed, and after being surprised early by three special teams touchdowns, they were able to push a scoreless 2nd half and earned a little pride in a 30-0 loss. The Midgets played tough through four quarters, but were unable to spark enough against a tough Redskin team that nickel and dimes all day long on their way to a 30-0 win. Next week, a weekend off, bye week.

Midgets Dominate Packers For First Win
|
The Chief midgets came out firing and dominated both sides of the ball Saturday on the way to a 21-6 drubbing of the Packers. The Chiefs scored early and often, and got a lot of reps to the 2nd string on the afternoon. A great all around effort for the offense on some great scoring plays, the defense on getting a safety, and special teams for pinning the Packers in their own end all day long. Next up, a quick turnaround and back to MAMS for a Sunday game at 2:30PM versus the Dolphins.

Soggy Field Trips Minis
|
A lone long run by the Rams on Saturday, took enough of an advantage of the poor field conditions to doom the Minis in a 7-0 loss Saturday. A very strong defensive game was undone on a single play, but the effort throughout was outstanding. The offense struggled at times with the soggy field, but kept their heads up even as time expired with the Chiefs inside the Rams 5 yard line. Next up for the Minis, the Bucs.

PeeWee Mistakes, Weather, Big Plays Key Rams Win
|
On a soggy Saturday afternoon, the Rams Peewees took advantage of a poor field late en route to a 12-7 win. After a defensive-minded first half, with the Rams leading 6-0, the Chiefs seem to come alive on the opening possession of the second half, and marched to a 7-6 lead. A number of back and forth possessions later, and a long 4th quarter run put the Rams ahead for good at 12-7. Again key mistakes, penalties..., and untimely miscues led to another close loss, despite a handful of red zone possessions for the Chiefs. Next up for the PeeWees, the Bucs.

Midgets Struggle To Overcome Slow Start, Drop Opener

The Chief Midgets fought through three tough quarters of football, trailing 25-0 after those frames, but were able to dig deep and fight back in the fourth, and won the quarter, but were unable to recover in a 25-8 final Sunday at MNMS. MiniPeeWees Play Fast, Take Victory
|
The MiniPeeWees, behind outstanding performances from Paul Semin, Parker Newman, Andre Cooper, Jacob Heath, Braxton Carr and contributions from every other Mini were able to bounce back after falling behind early, and came up with an opening week 14-12 victory Sunday at MNMS. The MiniPeeWees used a high energy attack to offset the lack of experience, and by the final whistle looked like veteran players. Great job Minis! Next up, Rams Saturday Sept 9th, at MCMS

Mistakes, Missed Opportunities Doom PeeWees
|
The PeeWees started the 2006 season at MNMS with a 13-0 loss at the hands of the 49ers. Following a scoreless first half, the 49ers got a trick play touchdown when they caught the Chiefs off guard and threw a halfback pass to make it 6-0. The PeeWees battles mistakes all day, and despite winning the turnover battle, were unable to take advantage. A late touchdown from a short field gave the 49ers the final tally of 13-0. Next up for the PeeWees, the Rams on Saturday Sept 9th.

We had our first practice of 2006 and it was a great turnout, with 48 players getting into the groove with our light workouts! That's a great number for this time of year, and let's keep it going! Congratulations
|
The Chiefs organization wishes to offer congratulations to the league champions on this day. The Midget Championship saw the Raiders power out early and never look back in a 26-8 victory over the Redskins. The PeeWee Dolphins remained unbeaten and unscored upon for the year with a 18-0 win over the Cowboys. The Mini championship saw the Titans use 3 special teams and 1 defensive touchdown en route to a 39-6 drubbing of the Cowboy Minis.
Congratulations Raider Midgets, Dolphin PeeWees and Titans MiniPeeWees!

Chiefs Win Weekend
|
The Chiefs Midgets and Minis won Super Bowl games Saturday, giving the Chiefs a 2-1 record for the weekend. The Midgets played the best game of the year so far, and held on late against a fiesty Cowboy team to take the Saturday opener 28-25. The Minis used an opening trick play to score on a 51 yard run on the opening play from scrimmage, and held on late to beat the 49ers 13-6.

PeeWees Drop Super Bowl Opener
|
The PeeWees left the field knowing they had fought hard Friday night, despite being on the wrong end of an 18-0 loss in the Chiefs first game of the Super Bowl weekend. Great final efforts from Kyle Case, Brent Curtis, Brandon Andersen, Tyler Moll, Dylan Grell, Daniel Deng Lual, Dalton Zielinski, Cory Leonardo, Matt McCormick, Trev Vermeer and many, many other Peewees made for an exciting game to watch, regardless of the score. A great way to finish the year, and some momentum for these fine young players to take into 2006.

Dodgeball Champions X2
|
The first annual KWAA dodgeball tournament was held Saturday at the Center, 147th & Giles. The Chiefs fielded teams in 4 of the 5 divisions, and the MiniPeeWee team of Kyle McMindes, Shaun Knipfer, Alex Knudson, Trevor Bruegman, Brenden Trout and Caleb Schwartzkopf played through an opening game loss to win the title at the Mini level. The PeeWee representative played shorthanded through the day and were able to have fun and play hard despite the odds. The Midget team won a few and lost a few during the day, and were able to have a great time regardless of the outcomes. The coaches team, consisting of Robert Harper and Zack White of the Midgets, Tom Trout, Mike McMindes, Curt Schwartzkopf and Me, Coach Dickie, played through an 0-2 start to win 4 straight in bracket play to take the coaches championship. All in all it was a fun day, and we crowned a few champions in the process! There will be champions in the years to come, but the Minis and the Coaches team will always be the only inaugural champions! Hopefully all the teams participated had a great time!

After Slow Start, Minis Roll
|
After shaking the rust off early, the MiniPeeWee defense set the tone as the Minis rolled up a 42-0 win in a scrimmage against the Suburban Bulldawgs at Lamp Park Thursday. After going 3-and-out on the opening possession, the defense stiffened for a goal line stand to stop the Bulldawgs first threat. The offense answered with a long drive and Brandon Hochwender punched in the opener to make it 7-0. After a great kickoff, the defense began to dominate and was able to pounce on a Bulldawg mistake as Shaun Knipfer sacked the Bulldawg QB in the endzone, causing a fumble that Brenden Trout recovered for a touchdown to make it 14-0. On the next Bulldawg possession, continue defensive pressure forced another turnover, for which Kyle McMindes picked an errant pass and ran it back to make the score 21-0. The Bulldawgs never again threatened on offense, and the Chiefs finished the scoring on a pair of Trevor Bruegman runs, and the capper by Paul Semin for his first ever touchdown run as a Chief. Once again the Mini defense awoke as Danny Lee, Nick Holthe, Christian Hadden, Caleb Shwartzkopf, Alex Knudson, Logan Taylor, Garrett Campbell, Trout, Bruegman, Hochwender, Knipfer, McMindes, and Semin all had outstanding defensive games.

All three teams were defeated in shutout loses, marking the first time on the 2005 schedule that all three teams lost on the same weekend. The midgets will hope to rebound with a first round playoff game Saturday against the Dolphins, while the peewees and minis take on the Titans.

The View From The Sidelines
|
As we reach the stretch run for the 2005 KWAA Chiefs football season, it is only fitting to give an editorial on the state of the organization. As a minipeewee coach, I could not be prouder of the job our players have done thusfar in the season, and although I may appear biased to the team I am the head coach for, I only have to look back to last year to understand how important the other age groups are in the organization. While the minis suffered through the worst season in team history in 2004, the peewees and midgets showed support and encouragement at practice and at games in support of the little brother of the organization. Despite the fact that the minis are experiencing the most success in the win-loss column in 2005, as I have observed the peewees and midgets as the year has gone by, I am excited for the players and the strides they make. The peewees may not be winning every week, but the youth and inexperience they had when spring practice started is almost unnoticable at this time. The team has worked hard and is getting closer to finding both the chemistry and the team identity that they need to be succesful. The peewees are developing into a good football team, and they will continue to improve in the games and years to come. They peewee players and coaches should be very proud of how far they have come and how much they have accomplished in 2005. The midget team started with a lot of question marks. There was a solid core of highly experienced players, including a number of players that have been with the Chiefs for 5+ years. As the year progressed, injuries have been the primary reason for the retooling they are undergoing. Many players having to learn new positions, new players having to learn years of football in a matter of weeks, and a coaching staff having to undertake the responsibility of maintaining confidence and keeping themselves focused on preparing these players for the years of football in the future, have all been challenges the midgets have faced in 2005. As I watched this last weekend against the Dolphins, despite being down on the scoreboard, the midgets were coming together with the players they have to put on the field, in a marked improvement over just a week ago. They showed a team unity which makes the game of football, and the learning experience which the KWAA league is supposed to be, fun again, regardless of the score. My sincerest thanks go out to the entire coaching staffs of the peewees and midgets, along with my staff on the minis, and undeniably a huge thanks to all the players and parents that make this team possible. I thank you all for allowing me to be a part of your childrens lives.

Kyle McMindes Took A Bootleg Down The Left Sideline For The Games Only Score, And Then Kyle Sealed The Win Intercepting A Bronco Pass Late In The 4th Quarter. Outstanding Games Again By McMindes, Shaun Knipfer, Danny Lee, Nick Holthe, Brandon Hochwender, Christian Hadden, Caleb Schwartzkopf, Trevor Bruegman, Brenden Trout And All The Chief MiniPeeWees. Next On The List For The Minis: The Dolphins....

Sweet Redemption
|
The Chiefs MiniPeeWees Improved To 4-0 Sunday With A Late Afternoon Battle Against The Raiders, Paying The Raiders Back For A 48-0 Walloping Last Season. Kyle McMindes Scored Early In The 4th On A 2 Yard Sneak, Capping A Long, Powerful Drive Which Ate Up Most Of The 3rd Quarter, Tying The Score At 6. After A Succesful Onside Kick From Trevor Bruegman, The Chiefs Drove Again, Churning Downfield To Take The Lead On A Brenden Trout Dive With 28 Seconds Remaining. Bruegman Scored On An Easy, Wideopen Reverse On The Extra Point To Put The Chiefs Up For Good At 13-6. The Defense Held For The Last Ticks Of The Clock To Preserve The Win. Defense Standouts Included Bruegman, McMindes, Trout, Shaun Knipfer, Danny Lee, Nick Holthe, Caleb Scwartzkopf, Christian Hadden, Paul Semin, Brandon Hochwender And All The Chiefs That Stepped Up To Give The Chiefs A Victory For The First Time In 7 Years Against The Raiders. Little Things Are Big Steps For The Chiefs PeeWees Early In This 2005 Season. Despite Giving Up A Handful Of Big Plays, The Chief PeeWees Never Gave Up And Fought To The End In A 31-6 Loss The The Cowboys Sunday At MNMS. The Lone Score For The Chiefs Came Late In The Game When Brent Curtis Grabbed A Pass And Rambled For A Long Touchdown. Midgets Suffer Tough Setback
|
The Chief Midgets Battle Hard And Came Up Just Short In A Tough 14-12 Overtime Loss To The Dolphins On Saturday At Andersen Middle School
David Ribar Scored Early And Also In The Overtime To Account For The Two Chief Scores, But A Late First Half Pass Even The Score At Six Early, And A Tough Push In Overtime Answered The Chiefs. The Dolphins Converted On Their Extra Point In The Overtime Period To Give Them The Victory. A Tough Loss, But The Chiefs Midgets Will Get A Shot At Redemption Oct 1st When They Rematch The Dolphins.

Chiefs Minis Take First Step
|
The 2005 Chief MiniPeeWees Started The Season Strong With A Defensive Domination Against The Packers Sunday. The Defense, Led By Shaun Knipfer, Kyle McMindes, Danny Lee, Nick Holthe And Many Others Limited The Packers To Few First Downs And No Real Offensive Threats Throughout The Game. Two Long Kickoff Returns Gave The Packers Hope In A Game In Which The Final Score Did Not Reflect The Dominance By The Chiefs. A Few Offensive Miscues And Turnovers Hurt The Chiefs, But A Pair Of Touchdown Runs By Brenden Trout, And An Extra Point Run By Brandon Hochwender Help The Minis End An Eighteen Game Losing Streak By A Score Of 13-12, And Improved Them To 1-0 On The Season. A Great Game All Around From The MiniPeeWees
