PeeWees Spread It Around, Beat Rams

The KWAA Chiefs PeeWees got touchdowns from 4 different backs Saturday at UNO and used a balanced attack to stifle the Rams PeeWees 28-7. Touchdown runs from Trevor Bruegman, Alex Knudson, Brenden Trout and the first touchdown of the year for Parker Newman rounded out the scoring. A pair of extra point kicks by Matt Doeschot gave the final tally of 28 for the PeeWees who finish the year with a record of 5-3. A great season and a good way to get ready for 2008.

MiniPeeWees Lose Back And Forth Game

The KWAA Chief MiniPeeWees exchanged blows with the Cowboys at UNO Saturday in a high scoring affair until a few second half turnovers let the Cowboys pull away to a 33-18 win. Robert DiDonato scored twice and Noah Nespoli punched in his first TD of the year for the Minis. A great effort from the youngster and a good way to show how far they have come. Great job MiniPeeWees

PeeWees Put On Best Performance Of Year In Rout

The Chiefs PeeWees were an unstoppable offensive force against the Titans Saturday at Millard North Middle School. Scoring on every offensive possession in the first half and went in after 2 quarters leading 44-6. The scoring was led by Alex Knudson, who ran for 3 scores and made an electrifying 95 yard punt return accounting for his fourth touchdown. A pair of touchdown runs by Brenden Trout, a touchdown pass from Kyle McMindes to Trevor Bruegman, a long run from Anthony DiDonato, and a tough run by Austin Courtney completed the nine touchdown day for the Chiefs. Taking into account the 4-for-9 extra point kicks by Matt Doeschot put the final score for the day at 62-6. Next up for the Chiefs, the powerful Dolphins on Sunday.

Minis Score Early, Late In Victory

Two early scores set the tone for the Chiefs Minis Saturday at Millard North Middle School. After pulling out to a 14-0 lead early, the Titans closed the gap to 14-12 and missed the chance for a tie when the extra point kick careened off the crossbar. With time running down and the Titans stiffening on defense, Robert DiDonato kept the ball on a late 4th and 2 and was able to bounce it outside turning it into a 30 yard scamper which put the final score at 20-12. Two in a row for the Minis as they play the Dolphins in a make up game Sunday.

Midgets Battle, LoseClose

The Chiefs midgets played hard for all 4 quarters, but in the end it was a blocked punt returned for a touchdown that gave the Bucs an 8-6 victory Saturday at Anderson Middle School. After being pinned early and being stop for a safety, the Chiefs scored offensively on a Dylan Grell to Ian Morrison pass and led at halftime 6-2. Next up for the Chiefs, the Raiders on Oct 28th.

Midgets Play Tough, Come Up Short

The Chief Midgets played their best game of the year on a wet Millard North field Saturday morning, and with a late TD the Rams were able to walk away with a 19-6 win. With the score 6-0 Ian Morrison knocked the ball lose from the Rams ball carrier, and it was scooped up and run for a touchdown by Keith Owens. A long drive put the score at 13-6 Rams at the half, and it stayed that way until late in the 4th when the Rams tacked on the final score against an exhausted defense. The best effort of the year for the Chiefs, regardless of the score and they can build on this effort as they face the Bucs.

MiniPeeWees Score Early, Hold On For First Win

The Chiefs MiniPeeWees scored on the opening possession of the game on tough running by Robert DiDonato, and the extra point run by Noah Nespoli proved to be the difference as the Minis used a tough defense on a goal line stand and were able to upend the Broncos Minis 7-6 Saturday afternoon for their first win. Next up the Minis look to keep rolling against the Dolphins.
Posted On 10/6/2007 By Coach Dickie

PeeWees Come Out Flat, Get Shutout

The PeeWee Chiefs never really showed up Saturday at Andersen Middle School, and as a result the Broncos were able to walk away with a 12-0 win. The loss marks the first time all year the Chiefs PeeWees have been shut out. Next up for the PeeWees, the powerful Dolphins.
Posted On 10/6/2007 By Coach Dickie

Defense, Special Teams Fuel PeeWee Win

The Chief PeeWees used a punt return touchdown and a fumble recovery touchdown and shut the Raiders PeeWees down offensively notching their 3rd shutout in a 12-0 win Sunday at MAMS. Next up for the PeeWees, the Broncos Saturday at 11:00am at MAMS.

MiniPeeWees Improvement Continues

The Chiefs MiniPeeWees had more good spots than bad in a 19-6 loss the the Raiders Sunday at MAMS. The Raiders scored 2 second half touchdowns to pull away from a 6-6 tie, and the Chiefs showed heart and effort hanging in until the end. Weekly improvements keep the Minis very competitive as they work hard towards their first win. The Minis next face the Broncos Saturday at 1:00pm at MAMS.

Midget Score Not Effort Reflecting

The Chiefs Midgets dropped a 34-0 decision to the Cowboys Saturday morning at MAMS. The effort from the senior Chiefs team for the first time this year approached the potential the coaching staff feels they have. Progress and forward momentum for the Chiefs as they head into a Sunday morning clash at MNMS against the Dolphins

Chiefs Struggle, Get Swept

All three Chiefs teams were beaten over the weekend, the first time this season the Chiefs post an 0-3 weekend record. The PeeWees struggled and self destructed losing 18-6 to the Steelers. The most exciting game of the weekend saw a short handed, yet determined MiniPeeWee team battle for four quarters dropping a close 6-0 decision to the Steelers. The Midgets lost a discerning effort Sunday morning 24-0 to the Redskins. The Chiefs look to regroup as the Minis and PeeWees battle the Raiders and the Midgets matchup against the Cowboys.

PeeWees Pound Redskins

2 Weeks, 2 Games, 2 strong offensive performances and 2 shutouts. The PeeWee Chiefs used a strong rushing attack and a stingy defense in handing the Redskins a 32-0 drubbing Saturday afternoon at Millard Central. Two scores by Alex Knudson, a touchdown from Brenden Trout, and a scamper from Brandon Hochwender set the pace for the 2-0 PeeWee Chiefs. Kicker Matt Doeschot was again perfect, connecting on 4 for 4 extra points to improve his season total to 7 for 7. Next up for the PeeWees, the Steelers Saturday to open conference play.
Posted On 9/15/2007 By Coach Dickie

Minis Again Strike First, Give Way Late

The Chief Minis struck first for the second straight week when Robert DiDonato scamperede 80 yards for a score and put the Minis up 6-0. The Minis were unable to put together another drive and the Redskins scored 2 second half touchdowns to pull away to a 21-6 victory at Central Middle School Saturday afternoon. Next up Steelers Saturday.
Posted On 9/15/2007 By Coach Dickie

Midgets Start Fast, Finish Flat

The Chief Midgets started fast against the 49ers on a chilly Saturday morning at Andersen Middle School. Dylan Grell returned an interception on the second play from scrimmage to put the Midgets up 6-0. After that a less than stellar effort and a determined 49er team pounded the middle on both sides of the ball and pulled away to a 22-6 victory. Next up for the Midgets, Redskins Sept 23rd.
Posted On 9/15/2007 By Coach Dickie

PeeWee Chiefs Dominate Cowboys

The Chief PeeWees used a balanced offensive attack and a stingy defense in defeating the Cowboys 24-0 at Millard North Middle School Sunday. Touchdown runs by Alex Knudson and Brandon Hochwender, followed by a 55 yard touchdown pass to Trevor Bruegman from Kyle McMindes help to seal the win for the Chiefs. The Chiefs also relied on the strong leg of Matt Doeschot as he set a Chief record for PATs, going 3 for 3 kicking extra points for the PeeWees. With the victory the Chiefs move to 1-0 on the season and play host to the Redskins Saturday at 1:30 PM at Millard Central Middle School.
Posted On 9/9/2007 By Coach Dickie

MiniPeeWees Fight Hard, Lose Nailbiter

The Chief MiniPeeWees struck first, but were unable to hold off a late charge as they were downed by the Cowboys 13-6. After going up 6-0, the Cowboys used a punt return touchdown to send it to halftime tied at 6. After a battle for field position in the second half saw the Cowboys end up with the ball deep in Chief territory, they were able to push it across late and convert a PAT pass to go up 13-6 with just a few minutes remaining. A few last ditch plays for the Chiefs fell short, and saw them drop their opener by the final of 13-6. Next up for the Minis, the Redskins come calling at 3:30 PM at Millard Central Middle School on Saturday.

Midgets Lose Defensive Battle

An early morning game at Andersen Middle School saw the Chief midgets and the Jets battle for four quarter, with a late touchdown for the Jets giving them a 6-0 victory. Both teams played hard through a scoreless first half, and the Jets were able to use Chief errors to capitalize on a short field late in the game to escape with the win. Next up for the midgets, an 8:30 AM meeting Saturday versus the 49ers at Andersen Middle School.

PeeWees Look Good In Scrimmage

The Chief PeeWees scored through the air and on the ground as they played guest for the Gretna Gold Thursday night at Gretna Middle School. Long runs by Brandon Hochwender, Parker Newman and Kyle McMindes, mixed with timely long pass plays for scores, twice to Trevor Bruegman and once to Keegan Young, accounted for a solid offensive effort against one of the best Gretna has to offer. Powerful running by whack back Brenden Trout, and solid line play on both sides of the ball made for an entertaining scrimmage. As always, there are some kinks to work out as the Chiefs prepare for the season opener against the Cowboys.

Mission Accomplished!

From Midget Coach Doug Case:

Alex Genaidy 2001, 2002 has become a member of the Texas A&M football team for 2007. He will be playing wide receiver for the Aggies. Following Alex's time with the Chiefs where he did get an outstanding lineman award as a tight end, his family moved to Texas. Alex attended High School in Dallas, TX. After moving through a couple of positions, Alex settled down at wide receiver and amassed 850 yards of receiving his Senior year. Alex called me this past weekend to give me the great news. He remembers fondly his time with the Chiefs and the coaches especially the encouragement his coaches gave him and the chance to have 'fun' prior to his high school football career. Thanks to Whitey and my other assistants those years which included Karim Genaidy (Alex's Dad). It's great that he has such fond memories and greater that he was able to achieve his goals. He is to be congratulated and I think that I can speak for the team when I say we're all very proud of Alex. Great Kid, Mission accomplished!

An Editorial To Live By

I search the internet daily for technical, tactical, useful information to help my life as a youth sports coach. Something you see in numerous locations is the national youth coach code of ethics, but more importantly it seems these days, with parents pulling guns and fights erupting in the stands, is the parents code of ethics. It becomes increasingly difficult to coach and to be a traditional parent cheerleader when a few bad apples decide that winning is more important than anything else. I would be lying if I said the Chiefs were angels throughout the course of the season, but I have noticed an increasing hostility, between parents, coaches, players, an atmosphere tainted by putting victory above all else. I offer you the parents code of ethics, and the link to the coaches and players code of ethics, in hopes that we may all return to the purpose of having youth sports be fun, educational, and a lifelong positive experience for all our young men and women.

Parents Code of Ethics

I hereby pledge to provide positive support, care, and encouragement for my child participating in youth sports by following this Parents Code of Ethics Pledge.
I will encourage good sportsmanship by demonstrating postive support for all players, coaches, and officials at every game, practice, or other youth sports event.
I will place the emotional and physical well-being of my child ahead of a personal desire to win.
I will insist that my child play in a safe and healthy envirnoment.
I will support coaches and officials working with my child, in order to encourage a positive and enjoyable experience for all.
I will demand a sports environment for my child that is free of drugs, tobacco, and alcohol, and will refrain from their use at all youth sports events.
I will remember that the game is for youth-not for adults.
I will do my very best to make youth sports fun for my child.
I will ask my child to treat other players, coaches, fans, and officials, with respect regardless of race, sex, creed, or ability.
I promise to help my child enjoy the youth sports experience by doing whatever I can, such as being a respectable fan, assisting with coaching, or providing transportation.

Chiefs Salute 2006 Champions

The Chiefs organization would like to extend its congratulations to the 2006 champions.

MiniPeeWees
Redskins over Dolphins 18-0

PeeWees
Dolphins over Cowboys 22-6

The Chiefs would especially like to congratulate the midget Cowboys, 18-8 victors over the Redskins. A special congratulations to Jake Loftus, the inspirational leader, Dustin Peters, the 'Diesel', head coach Dennie Loftus, and the entire group of Cowboys, for taking a winless team in 2005 and turning them into an undefeated league champion. A great effort from all, and a great group of kids, congrats Cowboy midgets.

Chiefs Close Out 2006 Season

In summarizing the 2006 season, I quote a familiar saying from the walls of Memorial Stadium in Lincoln

Not the victory but the action; Not the goal but the game; In the deed the glory.

And from Vince Lombardi, hall of fame NFL coach:

The real glory is being knocked to your knees and then coming back. That is real glory.

What these quotes mean to us as coaches and teachers is to never dwell on the records, the wins and losses, but to dedicate ourselves to making better football players, to making better young men, to instilling a dedication to give 110% and to get up more than you get knocked down. The 2006 Chiefs, the Minis, PeeWees and Midgets were knocked to their knees a number of times this season, but when the smoke clears, they will rise again. Hold your heads up high and bring the desire to improve into 2007.

PeeWees Dominate Scrimmage

The PeeWee Chiefs travelled Tuesday to Andersen Baseball fields to take on the Red Storm of the MAA. In the end, a great experience for all the Chiefs in a 63-0 rout. In a game in which the backups took 2/3 of the snaps on both sides of the ball, the Chiefs were never really threatened as they showed their true potential for the first time in 2006. Offensively, the Chiefs were able to run all 3 quarterbacks, and had success early on TD runs by Ian Morrison and Alex Knudson. A TD reception by Brandon Hochwender from Kyle McMindes also helped lift the Chiefs in the early stages. Tough running by Brenden Trout (TD), Caleb Schwartzkopf, and Roger Linn helped to spread the carries around. The offensive line, which was dominant all night, was led by Nick Holthe, Gabe Rigatuso, Austin Courtney, Corey Andersen, and Ben Barrett, who picked up a fumble and rambled for a 15 yard pickup. Trevor Bruegman also made a key reception, helping the Chiefs to a successful passing night. The surprise of the night offensively was the running of Anthony DiDonato, who had a long TD run and ran with confidence all night long. A great effort by Anthony! Defensively the Chiefs ran a rotating substitution scheme all night which proved to be dominant. Shaun Knipfer spent the majority of the night in the Red Storm backfield, causing havoc and not allowing the Storm to get on track. Josh Formanek, Alec Carstens, Grant Miller and Dylan Kuehn also provided a strong defensive effort plugging the middle. Soren Brunken was unstoppable on both sides of the ball, and was unmatched in his athleticism as he showed his true form, and what the coaches have waited all year for, to dominate.

A special thanks to Coach Nelson and the MAA for allowing us to use the fields and to host this scrimmage. The Red Storm are a fiesty group of players who have great things in thier future, good luck to them in the remainder of 2006 and beyond!

Off Topic

HEY! A little off-topic post, I am getting a lot of feedback on the website from other teams other than the Chiefs, so I began a little side project. check out KWAA Football for my latest project. The news is in testing, the schedules are in testing, but you get the idea, each team will be able to admin their own scores, news, etc, and the league will have admin rights to change everything else. Click a team helmet to go to a specific team portal.
GO CHIEFS!!
